Real Justice Thriller #2: Affairs of State

Posted on May 16, 2017 in What's Next

So, you want to be a world changer?

The next novel in my Real Justice Thriller series will be Affairs of State, a story that explodes the tension between the ideals of an emerging generation of leaders and the realities of power in a competitive and corrupt global culture.

Every story explores a “what if” question, and here’s the question that was the catalyst for Affairs of State: what if an international young leaders development program became a front for a sexual blackmail scheme aimed at world leaders, including the President of the United States?

The cover shown above is a concept, not the real design. I came up with it to portray the darkness that covers the world’s systems of government and the spoilage that the pursuit of power brings to every element of society.

Here’s a preview:

Los Angeles school district administrator Jacqui Lamport navigates allegations of sexual assault inside a multi-district future leaders program she champions. Her husband, federal judge Edward Lamport, fights a politically-charged impeachment led by a vindictive California congressman.

Their separate crises converge when they discover that the billionaire underwriter of Jacqui’s program has secret ties to Congressional enemies of the President, and student participants’ interactions with US and international government leaders may be the locus of the alleged assaults.

Jacqui and Edward’s pursuit of the truth leads them to a path that, if taken, could irreparably damage the institutions they serve and thrust the country—and the world—into a governance crisis with unfathomable consequences.

I’ll be sharing more in the coming months about the social and political issues and the characters in Affairs of State and what I’ve learned in my research for the novel.

In the meantime, I’m working hard for you to craft a timeless and unforgettable story that puts the ideals of forgiveness and redemption to the ultimate test.

All the best,

Dennis
